Training aimed at trade union representatives and delegates
During the second week of May, training sessions dedicated to union representatives and delegates of FESTU (Federation of Somali Trade Unions) took place in Somalia.
In addition to the General Secretary of FESTU, Omar Faruk Osman Nur, who introduced the training module, the first meeting was attended by Mr. Yusuf Mohamed Adan representing the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Somalia), stating that "there is a huge need for more and better jobs, especially in light of rising youth unemployment in Somalia, and the answer to this is a decent work agenda that needs to be implemented in Somalia with effective mechanisms to protect workers' rights.
"We are working together with the Government and employers to present to Parliament a new labor code that guarantees and protects the rights of all workers in Somalia" underlined the Secretary General of FESTU Omar Faruk Osman Nur
Meetings that focus on labor rights, decent work, social dialogue and collective bargaining as well as the discussion on and the role of employers' organizations in the transition from informal to formal and good practices for the creation of decent work and social inclusion .
Study of inclusive and socially protected work models, verification of regulations and tools for the planning and formalization of paths in support of formal work that also take into account the most vulnerable groups (young people and disabled); services to support the development of micro-small enterprises; health and safety at Work; reduction of gender discrimination.
All focus of the same training course which also has the creation of paths for the promotion and construction of Peace as its final objective.
