During the 113th International Labour Conference, held in Geneva from 2 to 13 June, the Tripartite Committee of the I.N.FORMA.L project officially presented an important tool for the economic and social development of Somalia: the National Action Plan (NAP) for the transition from an informal to a formal economy.
The NAP was announced by the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of Somalia, Yusuf Mohamed Hassan, and signed together with the Secretary General of the Federation of Somali Trade Unions, Omar Faruk Osman, and the President of the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohamud Abdikarim Gabeyre. Developed also thanks to the collaboration of ITUC-Africa and CGIL, it represents a fundamental step in promoting decent work, strengthening workers' rights, and fostering more inclusive economic growth.
The launch of the Plan is not only a formal milestone, but also a concrete basis for strengthening labour institutions, social protection, and social dialogue in Somalia, contributing to the stability and inclusive development of the country.
The NAP was developed within the framework of the project “I.N.FORMA.L. – Educate, Regulate, Train, Work” AID 012590/03/0, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and implemented by Nexus Emilia Romagna in collaboration with the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU), the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of Somalia (MoLSA), and the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), with the collaboration of CGIL and ITUC-Africa. The project aims to reduce precariousness and informality in the labour market, offering new prospects to millions of Somali workers.
