The seminar "Decent Work and Social Dialogue for a Democratic Transition and Peace in Somalia" will be held on January 27, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at the Sala Santi, CGIL Nazionale, Corso d'Italia, 25, Rome.“

During the meeting, we will have the pleasure of welcoming a tripartite Somali delegation composed of representatives from the Ministry of Labor, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Somali Confederation of Trade Unions (FESTU), and will present the results of the INFORMA.L. project – Educate, Regulate, Train, Work, promoted by Nexus Emilia-Romagna ETS with the support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

In Somalia, over 801 TP3T of productive activities are located in the informal economy. Transforming this vast sector into dignified, regulated, and protected work represents a crucial challenge not only for millions of workers, but also for strengthening institutions and the state.
In this context, the project achieved a particularly significant result: the drafting, adoption, and signing of a tripartite National Action Plan for the transition to the formal economy (NAP), signed in June 2025 by the Somali Ministry of Labor together with trade unions and employers' organizations.

In light of recent declarations of unilateral recognition of Somaliland, we believe the initiative takes on an even more timely significance, offering a forum for discussion on the strategic role of the Horn of Africa—and Somalia in particular—in African regional politics, as well as on broader international geopolitical dynamics.

Participation is possible in person or remotely.
