The document represents a practical tool to support the implementation of the main Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), ratified by the Federal Government of Somalia on April 6, 2021. The manual is part of the country’s commitment path to improving labour standards, promoting decent work, and ensuring the protection of the rights and well-being of workers, in line with regional and global objectives.

Through an operational and practice-oriented approach, the manual explores key themes such as social dialogue and tripartite consultation, the prevention of violence and harassment in the workplace, occupational health and safety, and the strengthening of social protection systems. Particular attention is also given to gender dynamics and inclusion, with the aim of promoting fair, safe, and participatory working environments.

The manual, drafted by FESTU in collaboration with Nexus ER and CGIL, is the result of a broad process of tripartite consultation and multi-stakeholder dialogue carried out throughout the project “I.N.FORMA.L. – Educate, Regulate, Train, Work. From informal to formal for inclusive growth, peace and social dialogue in Somalia” – AID 012590/03/0.
